About Us

Established in 2003 Models and Algorithms for Data & Text Mining Laboratory (MADLab) is a research Lab at the Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication (DISCo), of the University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy. The Lab is a team of passionate researchers and a constantly developing and fervent environment.

The interdisciplinary research team mainly focuses on Causality in Artificial Intelligence by combining computer science, mathematics and statistics. The main models we study and develop include Causal Networks, Bayesian Networks, Dynamic Bayesian Networks, and Continuous-Time Bayesian Networks . Led by Professor Fabio Antonio Stella, we collaborate with several institutions, researchers and clinicians on national and international research projects by contributing to healthcare.

Our Projects

We design and develop learning algorithms to build causal models by combining domain knowledge with observational data. The class of causal models we develop makes it possible to effectively interact and communicate with domain experts to make predictions and solve decision-making problems under uncertainty.

Our research activities are mostly centered around Healthcare where causal discovery and causal inference suit the complexity in the clinical decision processes, thus allowing interpretation of predictions and decision policies. The output of our methodological research is presented at international conferences and published in journals specialized on Artificial Intelligence.
